Benefits

Reduce the overall cost of hardware through consolidation and data center resources (power and cooling).

Faster provisioning while providing improved system security, reliability, and scalability.

Leverage the virtual infrastructure in place and focus your resources on providing specialty services.

Services include:

  • Managed Virtual Machines
  • Self-managed Virtual Machines
  • Private VM Clusters
  • High-performance storage
  • High-speed networking
  • Application load balancing
  • Highly Available (HA) architectures
  • Secure environments
  • 24/7 monitoring of critical infrastructure

Virtual Server

When you request a virtual machine you have two options: “Managed” or “Unmanaged.” Regardless of choice, OIT Enterprise Infrastructure team (OIT EI) will create the virtual container for the guest OS. With “Managed,” OIT EI will do the OS installation, while with “Unmanaged,” a bare-metal instance of the VM will be provided.

Managed option

If “Managed” option is chosen, OIT Enterprise Infrastructure team will be responsible for the following:

  • Virtual container for guest operating system
  • Windows or Red Hat/CentOS install
  • System administration
  • Firewall
  • Patching
  • Backup
  • Monitoring

Self-managed option

If “Unmanaged” is chosen, the following is the assumed responsibility from the client side:

  • Virtual Machine for guest operating system
  • Responsible for obtaining OS (Windows or RedHAT/CentOS) and other software required
  • Self-management console
  • Dedicated VLAN
  • Optional file-level backup
  • Patching
